WHOLE GRAINS DAY

Wednesday, 20th February, 2019

Whole wheat is the most popular type of whole grain, but did you know that whole wheat bread is only one type of whole grain bread?  Whole wheat flour is unbleached and unenriched, and is made from whole grains such as wheat and barley, which contain more fiber, vitamins, and minerals than bleached, refined, and enriched flour!  Also, whole grains are digested more slowly than refined grains, which have beneficial effects on blood sugar and insulin (keeping levels of both down!).  Eating one or more servings of whole grains a day can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.  So, stock up on whole wheat pasta, quinoa, brown rice, and multi-grain bread!
