Principal's Message

September 11, 2013

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to an exciting new school year at Port Royal Primary School.  We have planned a variety of programmes and activities for your child this year.  We look forward to them growing academically, physically, spiritually, emotionally and socially.  We invite you to be actively involved in your child’s school experience.  By working as a team we can make this the most enjoyable and rewarding year yet.
Throughout the school year, our school family will make a special effort to stay in touch with you.  On a weekly or biweekly basis, teachers will forward a class news bulletin.  This bulletin will outline subject areas being taught, as well as reminders concerning school/class events.  From the office, you will receive notes, updates, tips, reminders and a school calendar.  These are provided to keep you up to date on school matters.  In addition, your PTA will forward reminders of their activities.  Information can also be found on our website.  The revised MOED calendar can be found on the reverse of this sheet.
Our school calendar for term one will be sent home shortly.  In the meantime, we will keep you updated as needed.  I hope that you will keep this calendar handy so that you can keep abreast of our school activities and events.   As all items are not available at press time I encourage you to add new information as notes are forwarded during the year.
At this time I would like to give special emphasis to the following:-
¨ Popsicle sales will begin on Wednesday, September 18, 2013.  Students may buy the cool lunchtime treats for $2.00.

Our Back to School Night is on Thursday, September 19, 2013.  The evening will begin with 6:00 p.m. in children’s classroom for more information about their particular class and year level. At 6:30 p.m. we will move to the Hall for general school information and the PTA AGM.  We will try and have the meeting completed by 7:30 p.m.
¨ Beautification Day on Friday, September 20, 2013. (Details to come)

¨ The first warning bell rings at 8:45 a.m. and the school day begins at 8:50 a.m.  Students are late if they arrive after 8:50 a.m. and they must get a late slip from the office, even if we are still in lines when they arrive.

¨ Also, be reminded that when dropping your children off at school, it is imperative that the yellow zone not be blocked, and that you pull forward, allow the students to exit the car and pull off as quickly as possible.

¨ In the morning, students should also have a quiet activity that they can work on while they wait.  Quiet activities include—colouring books, a book to read, flash cards, a drawing book, a writing book, word searches, crossword puzzles, Sukoku books, spelling words to study, and review of homework.  Students should put their bags in their lines on the blacktop and sit on a bench with their activity.  Students are only allowed in the hall on rainy days.  The teacher on duty does not come on until 8:35 a.m. and if students arrive before this time, they are not supervised.

In addition to our communication with you, your communication with us is very important.  Please do not hesitate to contact us whenever you have a concern or need information.  The school’s telephone number is 238-0257 and the fax number is 238-8614.  Please complete and return the student information sheets that will be sent home so that we have current contact information.

Once again, welcome to the new school year, and we look forward to your continued support  during the school year.
